A release of 416 bottles from the Old Malt Cask range, this was distilled at Glenlossie in September 1993, aged for 18 years in a refill butt and bottled in January of 2012.

Official tasting notes:

  • Nose: Light and sweet, carrying vanilla and home-baked character
  • Palate: Clean and fresh with barley sugar and attractively sweet spices
  • Finish: Medium long, still sweet and orange zest coated in milk chocolate.

What I say

First of a pair of Independently bottled 1993 Glenlossie’s. This one is from Douglas Laing and was bottled after 18 years in a refill ex-sherry butt, bottled at 50% ABV.

My tasting notes:

  • Appearance Chardonnay gold (5/20), slow, medium-fine tears and long, well-defined legs.
  • Nose Sweet, cereals, oak wood dust, lemon, orange oil, peach, nectarine, almost pineapple, neutral woody oak, toasted coconut, coconut mushroom sweeties, soft nougat, nutty hazelnut, honey, caramel, vanilla.
  • Taste Medium-full bodied, mealy, cereals, barley malt, spiced white pepper, citrus peel and apple, lemon, pink grapefruit, orange oil, oak wood and grassy hay.
  • Finish Long, soft fruits and honey, dry woody spices persist.
  • Overall A sturdy malt with plenty of cereal character and fruit abounds, bordering on tropicality. Balanced by the presence of dry white oak.
